Some meals really help make the phrase ‘good morning’ a reality.
As I mentioned in the last post, I spent some time last month away from social media and really focusing on nourishing myself to recover from general ‘world issue’ stress as well as give myself some room to breathe after completing a very long work pivot. In that time, there was a huge focus on what I ate.
While I believe it’s always important to eat medicinally and intuitively, sometimes we have different or unique needs compared to our usual self and may look to different plant supporters to help us. One so many peopl know of when it comes to stress is lavender.
I’m a huge floraphage and always a fan of mixing lavender into a dish, and this breakfast – in the form of baked oats of which I am a huuuuge fan because of ease and nutrition – uses lavender and zest to comfort and rejuvenate tired nerves.

Now this meal has a few herbal friends when it comes to medicinal value. Really quick, I’ll throw out that berries are of course packed with vitamins and antioxidants which help support our bodies and ease oxidative stress. Oats are also medicinal, though they are not always considered so (until someone comes down with chicken pox or gets a poison ivy rash!). Oats are ‘nervine’ meaning they soothe the nervous system, and while the most powerful effect of this comes from the oat seed’s earlier phase the ‘milky oat’, we are generally familiar with oat cereal’s calming, heartwarming effects. They are softening or ‘demulcent’ to the tissues and spirit, and also provide our digestive system with beneficial fiber that supports the healthy activity of the wonderful little beings in our gut microbiome who help us break down nutrients for absorption and produce the precursors needed for balanced brain chemistry.
Lavender makes a big appearance here, as an aromatic anti-inflammatory that supports rest and calm. But as I was also feeling a little tired and not just frayed, citrus was also needed. Both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, lemon’s flavor and scent here have an uplifting, energetic aromatherapeutic effect.

Lavender and lemon is such a good flavor combination.
Too true!
