Words shift their meanings over time. This is a natural phenomenon of language. However, it’s terribly important to understand that the root meaning of a word remains at its core, and if you cannot connect to this aspect of a word, you miss out on the ability to use or even comprehend it to the fullest– which often ends up disempowering you.
‘Discipline’ is a great example one such word, where abusive usages of the concept have left a bitter taste in the mouth of many, leaving them to avoid being disciplined in their own lives, but for now let’s focus on the concept of Sacrifice.
Why? Because the growth you want, the transformation you’re searching for, the life you crave is often on the other side of sacrifice. Everything requires an exchange, and when you give something up for a holy cause, that is sacrifice.
The etymology of the word ‘Sacrifice’ shows that the word is rooted in the Latin sacrificium which means ‘to make sacred’ and this is what many forget when they use the word today.
To ‘sacrifice’ doesn’t just mean to make a severe compromise, to lose out on or get rid of something in pursuit of a goal, but to make an offering of it. Whether to your higher self, Spirit, Gxd etc, the sacrifice isn’t just something that is lost but something that is given.
If you are looking for more in some area of life, you’ll have to strike a balance. There is always something you can let go of, donate, sacrifice to make room for this boon you want. If you are looking to transform into a higher-vibrational version of yourself, you’ll have to sacrifice something your old self holds dear. It is precisely the energy of attachment turning into release that catalyzes the evolution you seek.
So when you are looking for change, as yourself: what would I pay for it? In the end, whatever you sacrifice from your old life is a small price to pay for the miracle you receive.
