On Receiving Our Desires

Why it can be hard for some of us to receive.

Whether you’re someone who takes the path of action and works towards your goals, or someone who prefers to let the flow bring things to you, the end objective to your process is the same- receiving a desired manifestation.

But getting what you want isn’t always easy…(or) is it?

No path is better than the other, and life often requires that we balance between both. And no matter which you take, it holds true that challenging opportunities for growth and learning can lurk where you least expect them. Receiving, I’ve found, is one of those areas.

Whether in the lives of my clients or my own journey, I’ve found that getting what you want- easily- can sometimes be anything but. The main reason?

Survival mode.

In a world permeated by various forms of oppression, survival mode is programmed and reinforced by violence, hereditary traumas, and culture. Thus, whether we are aware of it or not, many of us are subconsciously operating from a worldview dominated by fear, lack, scarcity & hyper-individualism.

But survival mode can often make us driven and focused- so why does it make it hard to manifest?

Survival and thrival are opposing states of being.

Survival mode is based on surviving- and the need to ‘survive’ implies a threat to life. This threat lingers with us consciously or unconsciously, making us focus on safety because we fear danger, security because we feel insecure, achievements because we think we lack value, and material attainments because we risk losing basic human needs.

In survival mode, we are operating on limiting beliefs, things like: “The world is harsh, life is suffering, there isn’t enough out there for me, the odds are against me, I have to fight for what I need, I don’t have time to relax, it’s not safe; neither is opening up.”

In thrival we believe things like: “It’s safe to explore, there are plenty of opportunities out there, I am supported in life, the future holds positive possibilities, I feel grateful.”

Thrival opens us up to curiosity, pleasure, joy and connection- states that seem risky or frivolous when you are in survival mode. The goals of thrival can only be pursued from a mindset that is secure- at which point we move on to fulfillment of higher motives like connection with others, creative desires, and an overall open-hearted relationship to life. Therein lies the key difference:

Conscious manifestation is an actualized mentality that understands oneself to be empowered, deserving, and existing in an abundant reality. We cannot think ourselves the center of our loving reality and connected to greater consciousness -AND- believe we are a disempowered victim of meaningless external circumstances at the same time.

What’s more, we cannot manifest receiving our desires from a giving universe -AND- be fighting for scraps in a world that can’t provide for us.

Which one are you believing?

In order to receive, we must feel secure. In order to be empowered, we cannot see ourselves as threatened victims. However, reaching these states can be challenging for people who have strong memories of harm. If manifesting is challenging for you, or if you have run into blocks in receiving, ask yourself this one question: Do I feel open right now?

Do you feel open in general? Do you feel safe, curious, loved by your Creator? Or specifically, do you feel open to receiving the things you desire? While you might want that new job, partner, lifestyle, or house, part of you might secretly fear them. But why?

Because if you get what you want and need, you won’t have any reason to identify with the lack thereof-

-and the change is a scary unknown to your ego. Or maybe having your dreams come true means risking the loss of the best things you’ve ever had in the future, and the possibility of such heartbreak is scarier than the safe, familiar lack you’ve lived with for so long.

In both cases, you can see how being in a fearful, scarcity-based reality is at odds with being someone, who is open and positive enough to attract and receive their desires. For this reason, it’s important to learn how to access and maintain a state of faithful, trusting openness despite the harshness of external circumstances. Until you can tap into your own system to tune into a state of safety, receptiveness and abundance, you will always be imprisoned by memories of the past and the influences of fickle, fear-inducing external factors.

Safety is relative and subjective. Do not wait for perfect 3D circumstances in order to allow yourself to leave survival mode behind. Remember the path of conscious manifestation is a spiritual one; one of faith. Thus one must operate from a belief in the unseen and know that the reality we experience for ourselves and the way we perceive it is all but the result & reflection of our own internal world: thoughts, beliefs and vibrations.
