When Intuition speaks, do you listen?

Intuition hardly needs to be developed- it’s our ability to hear it that needs attention.

Over the years, the question I hear most often from spiritual seekers is how to ‘get’ intuition, or grow it. In my experience, intuition is baked in- we’re born with it. The issue is rarely that it needs to be improved. Rather, we have to remove what’s blocking it.

What happened to intuition?

As our world has become more externally based on gross, exaggerated and obvious sensations, things and experiences, we as a global society have also become more logical and less subtle and wise. The more we believe only what we see, what is told to us, what is loud and obvious, the less we can receive subtle information from the worlds around and within us. Furthermore, most of us learn to silence our inner voice from an early age. This is by design.

Why don’t we trust our intuition?

There are many situations in life where a person is forced or trained to ignore their intuition, but it often comes in the form of some authority figure. Whether it is a parent or a system, those with power over the vulnerable will often deny their hunches or truths in order to keep them ignorant or subjugated to their authority. When a person does not trust their intuition, they will rely on an outside source for direction and validation in life.

How does intuition get blocked?

When we are taught by coercion or punishment not to honor our intuition, we build mental blocks around it in order to keep ourselves safe from future harm. Additionally, our diet and lifestyle can affect our mental processing and specifically alter the function of our pineal gland, dulling our intuition.

What does intuition feel like?

It is fairly easy to overlook intuition because the ‘voice’ of intuition is very subtle, though it is consistent.

Intuition does not scream, push, or grab. It simply states. It is often described as a ‘quiet voice’ or a ‘gut feeling’. Some people even receive intuitive insights through brief visual flashes, or dream messages. Because of its subtlety, intuitive wisdom is often overlooked in favor of thought loops, emotional attachments, or externally sourced ‘logic’.

How to honor your intuitive voice:

Intuition is ‘strengthened’ by being believed. If you want to be more intuitive, you will need to be willing to pause, tap in to your gut, and make decisions based on what YOU feel aligned with- no matter what others may be telling you.

Being intuitive often comes with ‘knowing’ things before you can explain them, meaning you won’t always be able to explain or justify your decisions to others. As you begin to tap in to your natural wisdom, you will find yourself being willing to say ‘no’ to things that don’t feel right, say ‘yes’ to new opportunities, and increase your overall alignment.

There are, of course, things you can do physically to help your intuition come through clearer. Meditation is a great practice for removing excess internal chatter, allowing you to really tap in to what your deeper consciousness and spiritual guides may be telling you. Additionally, one can focus on decalcifying the pineal gland via diet, adding greens like cilantro and spirulina as well as avoiding alcohol, which has negative effects on the nervous system. Being well-rested is also a must, so make an intention to repair your sleep cycle if necessary (which will also help your dream practice!). Responsible use of Psychedelics is also profound for neurogenesis, but this last tip can be used by anyone of any constititution, which is ‘softening’ your senses.

Over time, the various sensory organs become used to whatever level of stimuli is most common. In our current society, that level is ‘high’ on practically every sense. Even cheap foods are extremely sweet, salty and or rich, and for most of us, more abundant in these forms than ever. We are bombarded with noise and light pollution. Our minds are constantly over-processing and adjusting to expect higher and higher levels of stimulation. Unfortunately, that numbs us a little. It’s like how someone who eats an excess of salt might find subtle dishes to be ‘flavorless’, or someone with a constant sweet tooth finding many fruits ‘sour’.

Deciding to be intentional about what you eat, listen to, read, hear and expose yourself took can be a key factor in allowing you to tune into your tuition in a much finer, clearer way.

Affirmations:

I trust and honor my intuition
I listen to my inner voice
My spirit has its own wisdom
I am the authority of my own heart
My body and mind communicate clearly
